Introduction †
Norbert Preining さんが，ptexlive や TeX Live 2011 への追加日本語パッチ (in e-pTeX wiki) の成果を収めた TeX Live 2011 用の tlptexliveリポジトリを製作されています．
このリポジトリには，次の内容が含まれています．
- pTeX, e-pTeX の更新
- upTeX
- 日本語 MetaPost (pmetapost)
- 日本語化された xdvi (pxdvi)

テスト方法 †
Installation procedure for TeX Live 2011 †
- Install TeX Live, see http://www.tug.org/texlive
(collection-lang-cjk must be installed, best is scheme-full)
- update to latest version from tlnet
tlmgr update --self --all
this will update the updmap script, the ptex package, and will install
the IPA(ex) fonts and the japanese (babel) package, and the japanese-otf
package.
- update from tlptexlive repository:
tlmgr --repository http://www.tug.org/~preining/tlptexlive/2011/ update --all
this will update ptex for the fixed binaries, dvipdfmx for binary updates,
- Install pxdvi, pmetapost, uptex:
tlmgr --repository http://www.tug.org/~preining/tlptexlive/2011/ install pmetapost pxdvi uptex
- if necessary configure dvipdfmx behaviour wrt to embedding of fonts (see below)

Compiling binaries †
There will be no updates to the 2011 repository, the following paragraphs are here only for historic purpose!
If you want to help and you have an architecture available for building binaries that are not already built, or that are outdated, please read on!
The following script fetches the latest sources from the texlive repository (via rsync, so you need that), applies all patches, builds the binaries, and zips the necessary binaries up. The script can be downloaded from http://www.logic.at/people/preining/build-tlptexlive-latest.zip
It unpacks into a directory which contains a file README explaining what to do. In the simplest case just run
bash build-ptexlive-binaries
and send me the created file /tmp/binaries.zip.
If you use some other methods (like 北川さん's scripts), please send Norbert the following binaries:
dvipdfmx, eptex, makejvf, mendex, pbibtex, pdvitomp, pdvitype, platex, pmpost, ppltotf, ptex, ptftopl, pxdvi, pxdvi-xaw, wovp2ovf, upbibtex, updvitype, uppltotf, uptex, uptftopl.

- darwin向けバイナリのdvipdfmxがおそらくLionでビルドされているため、jpegを扱うとabortするという既知の問題が発生しています（ttp://oku.edu.mie-u.ac.jp/~okumura/texfaq/qa/56269.html）。なお、自前でビルドしたGCCでビルドすると正常に動作するという報告があります（ttp://user.ecc.u-tokyo.ac.jp/~ll087050/wiki.cgi?page=Mac%2FLion%2Fptetex3）。 -- mac_wac
- 本件は、x86_64-darwinバイナリに同梱されているdvipdfmxにおいて、Preview.appによる加工をして保存したjpegファイルにて、再現できました。Adobe Photoshop CS3で加工しても同様に再現しました。なお、universal-darwinバイナリの方のdvipdfmxだと問題ないことを確認しました。ちなみに、xdvipdfmxだと本件は再現しませんでした。 -- munepi

Handling updmap options †
The recent changes brought support for three new options in updmap:
kanjiEmbed
kanjiVariant
pxdviUse
For details on their usage see below. For setting these options in a TeX Live installation there are two ways:
The former method has the advantage that in case tlmgr generate is called at some later time, or one does an upgrade of TL, the option will still be set, while in the later case a call to tlmgr generate updmap will overwrite this setting with false.
Possible values for these options are:
- for kanjiEmbed and kanjiVariant: any string, it will replace the @kanjiEmbed@ and @kanjiVariant@ string in any map line occurring in updmap.cfg with the value. This allows selecting different font sets for embedding.
- for pxdviUse: only "true" or "false" ("false" begin the default)

Combining the effect of kanjiEmbed and kanjiVariant, it is now possible to select the JIS04 variant of the fonts by using the updmap.cfg options. If for example you select the kozuka fonts in JIS04, you need to set
updmap-sys --setoption kanjiEmbed kozuka
updmap-sys --setoption kanjiVariant -04
This paired with the above lines will effectively include the following map files:
ptex-kozuka-04.map
otf-kozuka.map
uptex-kozuka-04.map
otf-up-kozuka.map
All of these maps ares shipped now in the jfontmap package.
- 昨日，とある方の MacTeX 2011 の設定をしていて気付いた点を報告します．tlmgr でアップデートすると jfontmaps パッケージで texmf-dist/fonts/map/dvipdfmx/jfontmaps 以下に新しくマップファイルが置かれるのですが， 従来の texmf-dist/fonts/map/dvipdfmx/ptex 以下のファイルが残っているので，埋め込みの設定を変更しようとして新マップファイルの存在に気付かずに旧マップファイルを変更して反映されず悩みました． -- kmaeda

- フォントについては，ptexlive の設定はたぶん和文組版で bold face としてゴシック体を使うことが多いのでそういうことになっていたのかな，と思います．ただ，非埋め込みの PDF ファイルをプレビューや Acrobat で開くと，ゴシック体の部分は W3 で代替されたように記憶しているので，W6 である必然性はありません．ptexlive の設定は，ptexlive-20110322.tar.gz を展開してできる 5macro.sh に対して "HiraKakuPro-W6" を grep で探すとわかると思います． -- kmaeda

- ちょうど昨日upTeXの導入を試してたんですが、確かその時は、「tlmgr --repo ...tlptexlive.. update --all」でptexの更新について「ローカルの方がリビジョンが新しい」というメッセージが出てスキップされていました。【補足：実際のメッセージは：ptex: local: 25274, source: 25000 (reverse, keep)】 -- ZR

- @ZR: 申し訳ありません、間違いが二つしました。最初のは、updmap.plのbugを見つけました。二回@kanjiEmbed@を代替するのです。それで、自分で更新されたIPAのマプファイルを使っているのに、アップはまだまだです。今updmap.plを治して、後少し新しいIPAのマプファイルをアップします。注意したのはありがとうございます。 -- ノルベルト

Map file for pxdvi †
updmap †
Current updmap allows generation of xdvi-ptex.map (in TEXMF(SYS)VAR like the other generated map files) if one sets the updmap.cfg option "pxdviUse" to "true" (see above on how to set this option).
If "pxdviUse" to "true", xdvi-ptex.map is just copy of kanjix.map (a map file for japanese fonts, used by dvipdfmx). Otherwise, one has to write his own xdvi-ptex.map. The advantage of each setting is summerized as follows:
- pxdviUse=true: the displaying image by pxdvi and the output pdf by dvipdfmx look similar. So, if one thinks that a pdf is the final output (and he use pxdvi only for previewing it), he should use this option.
- pxdviUse=false: pxdvi can display fake bold fonts (with freetype) even if there is no real bold font.
Note that no file is removed by setting "pxdviUse"; one has to remove old xdvi-ptex.map. The copy of the original xdvi-ptex.map (included in the pxdvi package) is located in texmf/xdvi/xdvi-ptex.map.sample.
Syntax of xdvi-ptex.map †
A map entry in xdvi-ptex.map is in the following form:
<Japanese tfm> <enc> <font>[,<variant>] [<option>]
- There are also "replace" entries for <font> in pxdvi.cfg:
replace Ryumin-Light ipam.ttf/AJ16
replace GothicBBB-Medium ipag.ttf/AJ16
Because of these entries, one can use the following entry in xdvi-ptex.map (this line is in kanjix.map generated with kanjiEmbed=noEmbed):

updmap-setup-kanji (former updmap-otf) †
updmap-otf was written by Kobayashi Taizo to automatically setup embedding of fonts with dvipdfmx according to the available fonts. Preining Norbert has rewritten it in Perl, and adapted to work with the current settings of updmap.cfg, and also to avoid hard-coded paths. The new script is called updmap-setup-kanji and is included in the jfontmaps package.
Usage is
updmap-setup-kanji Set up embedding of Japanese fonts via updmap.cfg.
This script searches for some of the most common fonts
for embedding into pdfs by dvipdfmx.
In addition it allows to set up arbitrary font families
to be embedded into the generated pdf files, as long
as at least the map file otf-<family>.map is present.
Other map files that will be used if available are
ptex-<family>.map
uptex-<family>.map
otf-up-<family>.map
Please see the documentation of updmap for details (updmap --help).
Usage: updmap-setup-kanji {<fontname>|auto|nofont|status}
<family> embed an arbitrary font family <family>, at least the
map file otf-<family>.map has to be available.
auto: embed one of the following supported font families
automatically:
hiragino, morisawa, kozuka, ipaex, ipa
and fall back to not embedding any font if none of them
is available
nofont: embed no fonts (and rely on system fonts when displaying pdfs)
If your system does not have any of the supported font
families as specified above, this target is selected
automatically.
status: get information about current environment and usable font map

- 2012.05.17 repository updated to work with TL2012 pretest. Added instructions how to install pxdvi/pmetapost for TL2012 pretest.
- 2012.05.16 TeX Live 2012 pretest has started. Besides ptex and pmetapost it includes everything from here! Please test!
- 2012.05.07 *rebuild*call* dvipdfmx received a critical fix, please builders rebuild with at least svn >= 26228. New binaries for x86_64-linux (critical fix for dvipdmfx, plus built on old system for compatibility), new build script adapted to work on cygwin.
